[ The message arrives to the Summoned in two distinct styles of handwriting, indicating that Alucard and Thancred are coordinating the transmission of this important missive in tandem. ]

Apologies for the interruption, but after some time of investigating, Thancred and I have found some interesting information related to a remaining mystery that dates back to the first time many of us experienced the eternal night of Nocwich.

Alucard is granting me far too much credit, please know he’s the one who uncovered this. But yes, for those of you who were here back then, I’m sure you’ve been wondering who was truly behind the attacks on the three Summoned delegates. It’s certainly haunted me, especially given that it led to the attack on Libertas and the subsequent retaliation against Nott.

It turns out that those responsible were a Nocwich faction of Josselyn Creed’s cult, who skillfully were able to manufacture equipment that appeared to originate from the Free Cities, thus appropriately assigning the blame.

It doesn’t excuse the Queen’s lack of a proper investigation before she made assumptions and mounted her attack, but it does give us all some closure. We can’t be entirely certain what the cult’s motives were, but we can speculate.

It is worth noting here that Josselyn’s cult has roots in a more established faith here, one associated with the concept of a New Day and the Page of Pentacles. I first heard the phrase when we were invited into the realm of the Fae, and it concerned me given how much it sounded like something that could be a cult. As it turns out, there are a number of branches throughout Abraxas. Josselyn was able to turn branches towards her own ends, which in turn explains how so many of us were taken when she executed her plan.

To add another branch to this winding tree, a small village associated with Nott called the Old Emberwoods still practices this faith, and there are other similar hamlets scattered throughout Thorne and Solvunn. While they appear to be harmless and practicing an untainted version of the faith, a few of us will be keeping an eye on them all the same out of an abundance of caution.

On top of that, a mage named Oliver is apparently from Old Emberwoods. Only a few of you may recognize that name, but he was one of the mages who helped a group of Summoned escape Thorne about three years past. Beyond that, all I have been able to learn is that he is older than he looks — about a century, all told.

This information was likewise shared with Sten, who some of you may know from Luna. He was kind enough to keep an ear to the ground, and eventually found an old flyer for one of this group’s meetings. When I visited the location in Ikorr earlier this month, I was able to find another flyer that had the impression of a strong hand writing on top of it. Making rubbings revealed the plans as we have just outlined them, thus bringing this information full circle. From the looks of the location, this branch of the cult has not been active since.

We realize this is a lot of information to take in, particularly for those of you who are more newly Summoned. Feel free to ask questions and we’ll answer to the best of our ability. With any luck, this cult will never again rear its ugly head and we have the answer to a question that has been plaguing some of us for quite some time now.

Likewise, we realize that this information may seem pointless given that this faked attack and the responses it garnered offers uncomfortable parallels to our current moment. There’s no true connection between them, and we are sharing this information for the sake of knowledge and closure.

(( ooc: In case it’s not clear, blue font is Alucard and black font is Thancred. Responses will come from one or both of them, and threadjacking is encouraged as there is a lot to discuss here! ))

Thorne Summoned, Nott is getting bombarded by these winds, many of their boats are sinking, in disrepair, or in danger. I can teach people wind and shield spells in case. If you're willing to come help them, and the hospital could still use assistance, please come through the portal.

To the rest of the Summoned: are you experiencing the same heavy winds? I haven't heard if it's across the continent.

For those of you who spoke with our Fey hosts during our time amongst them, I am curious to know if any phrases similar to "a new day" or other terms that indicate change arose. I heard it said several times in a conversation, but elaboration on meaning was scant.

Given that many of us had intense, unwanted brushes with change and gods recently, the phrasing has me mildly concerned. The Fey's closed off nature means I have not found any recorded elaboration on the meaning.

I trust that discussion here will remain amongst Summoned for the time being.

I miss nachos. With that yellow 'cheese' that comes from a pump, and jalapenos.

It’s time we address the behemoth released from the shrines.

For those who weren’t in the pit, we shared the cavern with 4 occult shrines that produced a steady flow of blood. When the exterior of each was removed, a second was beneath - an armored figure with a spiked halo knelt in prayer, bleeding from empty eye sockets. Save for one other - a standing, armored skeleton-like humanoid carrying the upper half of an iron maiden, and wielding a spiked ball at the end of what appeared to be a chain of its own small intestines.

When the last of these shrines were opened, pillars of writhing flesh struck through the pit’s ceiling. Later, it was apparent these were the monster’s legs, and some were crushed underfoot when it began to retreat from its cage.

Proximity to the shrines caused a flood of sinister whispering and visions of a shadowed figure, and those of us succumbed to the ritual’s effects felt a certain draw to them. It’s unclear if the acolytes were hoping we’d interact with these shrines, as they never intervened, but the monster’s escape caused the eventual collapse of the pit and did them no favors.

Did anyone in the rescue team see where it went, after it broke off from the cavern? Best we learn what this creature is and what it’s capable of before we encounter it again.

There will be a cross-faction book exchange and research effort hosted in Istredd's domain regularly. Please come by if you’re interested in helping with this, sharing books not available in your faction, or any other pursuit of this world’s knowledge.

And, if anyone’s seen Dean Winchester - in the Horizon or otherwise - Sam, Jo and I would appreciate a word.

And while the invitation is all text much to Hilda's dismay, she's drafted up a couple of handmade copies in stunning calligraphy that she's thumbtacked to Sam's door for distribution to those that might miss her message otherwise.

And why yes, this was supposed to be an informal invitation but it's Hilda. Nothing she does is informal. But mostly it was to mess with Sam. ]

[ And then before the script fades away - she adds: ]

Hello everyone in Free Cities, this is Jayce Talis again. I was talking to the Libertas relief workers about next steps and the rebuilding effort since there were a lot of destroyed buildings and homes.

It's in early stages but volunteers for manual labor would be very appreciated now, and maybe those of us who have construction skills could be of more help in the future. I know not everyone is into heavy lifting, but I'm sure there are other things people can do, even if it's handing out meals or running errands there while they get things moving.

[Then, briefly, a hastier set of handwriting:] If you're at a loss, I'll be happy to assign you something to do.

I said I would ask other Summoned if they can volunteer some personal time, especially since we did an impressive job with the heavy lifting in the mines. There won't be any payment, but we'd offer higher discounts for our store.

Thank you,
Jayce Talis

[ Some may recognize her handwriting from direct correspondences, but Himeka doesn't use the Horizon network too often, but she's decided she's being helpful today. Sort of. ]

It seems like this season is something different for everyone, but for those who weren't with us last year I thought it might be helpful to go over a bit of Eifstide.

In Solvunn it's a time of reverence and offerings and honoring the gods of harvest and earth and also death. It's all a connected circle and whatnot. Much is ceremonial here so we'll probably see mages performing blessings and cleansings about town again. Helping them out would be nice. Or maybe joining in on the procession to remember those who have passed.

I'm not really sure what goes on in other places but mostly I bring this up because there was an incident where the angry dead rose up after a botched ceremony and we all had to deal with it. It was supposedly an accident from what the mages said, but it's been on my mind of late.

So! Just keep an eye out, I suppose?

Have a wonderful Eifstide or whatever it is you celebrate,

Okay, look. We need to talk.

What the hell is going on around here? That whole 'make the summoned run around like trained jackasses' thing? Not kosher.

Before I say anything else, I'll be the first to admit, I didn't let the bug loose. It was a bad call, somebody got hurt, and I'm sorry. I really am. If I could go back knowing what it did, I'd have let it out in a heartbeat.

But that's the thing, isn't it? I mean, seriously. Let's break this whole thing down.

  • Those douchebags running the Free Cities (or Thorne, or Solvunn) drag us in from wherever we were, without asking, against our will.
  • A highly reclusive nation decides to let us come hang out for a Disney vacation in their deeply secretive community as a gesture of good faith.
  • At a time when Summoned from all three factions coincidentally happen to be hanging out in the same reclusive ass place, something mysterious and terrible happens. I don't know about the rest of you, but I, for one, am shocked it didn't go as planned.
  • Instead of sending guards, the Free Cities sends us freaking couriers with the most useless note in the history of the goddamn planet telling us to release a device we know nothing about, without telling us what it does, just that we need to be real friggin sketchy about it.
  • When not everybody obeys without question like good little soldiers, one of our own gets hurt, and they shake the shame finger at us like it's our own fault? Are you kidding me?

  • First of all, if they can send couriers they can send their own friggin guards to handle crap like this. Or, hell, have the damn couriers release the things, they have hands, they could've prepped the packages their own damn selves instead of foisting it off onto the people who didn't even ask to be here in the first place.

Second of all, even if they COULDN'T, how about they slap in a goddamn paragraph or two on what the thing is? If everything's all hunky dory, and all that little bitch does is provide a protective shield, who CARES if a note that was gonna SELF-DESTRUCT ANYWAY gets read over somebody's shoulder?

This whole thing reeks of grooming us to start following orders without full intel. Surely nothing will come of that. Except, oh wait, Libertas just got friggin' bombed. The continent's going to war, and we're getting played.

And here's the other thing: I'm pretty sure Free Cities kids weren't the only ones running around doing sketchy crap during the happy fun werewolf party. Thorne, Solvunn, you two wanna weigh in here? Bueller? Anyone?

    assembles: (a long long look)
    [personal profile] assembles

Hey there, everyone. My name is Steve Rogers and I'm one of the people most recently summoned to the Free Cities. I'm also a good friend of Sam Wilson's — we've worked together for a number of years. I know he's made quite the name for himself here.

I've only been here for a little over a month, but in that time I've noticed a sudden increase in military activity within Cadens. There's increased drills and training exercises, equipment moving in and out, that kind of thing. I went by Fort Wilbridge and tried to ask some questions, but all they really had to say was that they were acting out of an abundance of caution. Almost like they're expecting something.

It seems suspicious, so I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a change in how the factions are behaving, whether it's something I haven't picked up on in Cadens or something going on in Thorne or Solvunn. I figure it might be a good idea to compare notes so we won't be completely blindsided if something else is coming our way.

That's all I've got for now, but it's nice to meet you all. In a manner of speaking, anyway.

    Alright, here's the deal.

Turns out there's a solid handful of summoned here in the hunting business, and I don't mean local game. If chasing down monsters or demons or whatever is in your wheelhouse, this message is for you.

I have a bar in the Horizon. Harvelle's Roadhouse. Sign's lit up, door's open, you can't miss it. We're thinking maybe getting together in one place might do everybody some good. Swap some stories, share some tips, talk about what you've seen here, what you know about putting it down, that kinda thing. Might be nice to have a place to keep tabs on everything.

Also, maybe doing a little drinking and knife throwing, if that floats your goat.

Just so we're clear, this is not an invitation or encouragement for every rookie with a sword and an ego to get inspired about a new career path. If this ain't your area, if you haven't done it before, stay at home. You will die, and nobody here wants to go on a corpse rescue mission.

Hello. My name is Inej, and I currently reside in Solvunn. I have been attempting to research information on the Gods and religious practices here. I have been told some wive's tales by the locals about not going out at night if you do not know the way, and the way a single person's fault can affect the lives of many if the Gods take offense.

My research in the library has not given me much more in way of specifics, just vague tales of them, theories of how they might have looked, but one thing does keep coming up: The Singularity came before them. I do not know if that means that the ones the locals see as Gods here were once people like us, pulled into this place... or if it means that the Singularity somehow created them. All the books hold the same theory: Prayer and dedication will wake them from their sleep.

I found something hidden in one of the volumes I was looking at today:

    Ever searching
    Ever longing
    Lost and greedy
    Wails of mourning
What has been found is never enough
Her reach is vast and cutting.

The parchment was ripped and smudged, nothing else could be made out on it. I am uncertain if it means anything at all, but I see no reason not to share it, just in case it might match something someone else has found.

If you have made it this far in this message, I appreciate your time. Thank you.
