Just a thought, considering our recent guests - what's your opinion on vampires and werewolves? Do you have them where you come from or are they just in stories? Monsters? Misunderstood? Just another type of creature?

I've met... sort of vampires before, and I was apparently the only one who hadn't heard of them. But I draw a line at werewolves.

They make for a pretty good movie. Other than that, it's people on message boards claiming to be vampires and werewolves with nothing but their hopes and dreams to back them up.

Nothing like either one exists where I'm from as far as I'm aware. Well, other than the occasional fairy tale about people with the ability to change forms, but that was more of changing to anything form they wanted to take instead of just one. I suppose as long as they're not trying to actively harm me then there's nothing to be concerned about.

The closest thing we had to either is the remainder of a civilization that did some blood experiments in secret, but... as far as I know they were basically human. I'm not sure if it would've explained more or less if they weren't.

People with the ability to change forms? That's interesting, I think we have those two. I've heard of shapeshifters, but I think they're rare. A good opinion, though, I agree.

In my experience, vampires often earn their reputation. Some of it is the natural result of their nature, the rest is the simple result of living for centuries.

So you have them where you come from? What's their reputation like in your world?

We have both where I'm from. They're people like us, but sometimes they smell worse.

They are pretty rare, though, and I don't think any stories I have about them would be relevant here.

Vampires are like any other powerful creature, including humans - manageable so long as there's someone reasonable at the helm of their society. But if the balance shifts, the scope of damage they can inflict is exponentially worse, and that's where things get dangerous.

Werewolves are much the same, except without the centralized power structure, as far as I'm aware.

That really does sound a lot like humans. Alright so long as someone sensible is leading them.

Yeah, werewolves tend to run in packs rather than nations.

Werewolves and vampires. And yeah, I guess you could say that, though I've had a lot of people say they're real. They're real on my world too.

There were stories in Ravka of kilyklava, myths of creatures who hunt for the blood of humans. But, to my knowledge, they were only stories. Cautionary tales told to children to keep them from misbhaving.

[Which is neither here nor there of whether she believes in them- there were always kernels of truth in all myths, afterall.]

Makes sense. It was like that in my world too, just stories and metaphors for murderers, but eventually it came out that the stories were true. Who knows, maybe it could happen in your world too.

Yes. We have them in my world. I'm far more familiar with one than the other, unfortunately.

Vampires are monsters. Perhaps that isn't the case elsewhere, but in my world they are monsters.

[She has a great many feelings on vampires currently. Her last experience with one was... prolonged and horrific. And the more recent events here haven't helped matters. Which is why she is tense and on edge with these new... visitors.]

[Interesting, to him, that so many people seem to have stronger opinions about vampires than werewolves. A shame, because he's trying to work out how people will respond to him being a werewolf, but still interesting.]

I'm going to go have to go with Legosi. There's a pizza joint about six blocks away from my old stomping grounds called Legosi's and the crust is perfection.

I hadn't heard of either until recently. No such species exist where I'm from -- at least, not to my knowledge. I take it you have some experience, if you are interested enough to ask the Summoned at large?

Strange. Almost everyone I've run into has heard of them before, at least in legends. Or, I guess I should say interesting rather than strange. And yeah, both exist back in my home, and I've had some run-ins with werewolves. No vampires yet, at least that I know of.
