to: everyone
Hey there, everyone. My name is Steve Rogers and I'm one of the people most recently summoned to the Free Cities. I'm also a good friend of Sam Wilson's — we've worked together for a number of years. I know he's made quite the name for himself here.
I've only been here for a little over a month, but in that time I've noticed a sudden increase in military activity within Cadens. There's increased drills and training exercises, equipment moving in and out, that kind of thing. I went by Fort Wilbridge and tried to ask some questions, but all they really had to say was that they were acting out of an abundance of caution. Almost like they're expecting something.
It seems suspicious, so I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a change in how the factions are behaving, whether it's something I haven't picked up on in Cadens or something going on in Thorne or Solvunn. I figure it might be a good idea to compare notes so we won't be completely blindsided if something else is coming our way.
That's all I've got for now, but it's nice to meet you all. In a manner of speaking, anyway.

Pair that with rumors of the Queen’s trip Borrel and it sounds to me like preparation for something big.

And if you think I’m going to jump straight into talking shop without asking how you’re doing, you have another thing coming.

[But, if they do want to get back to the matter at hand, since Stephen is not inclined to embarrass Sam too much—]
Logically, if everyone appears to be preparing for an attack rather than gearing up for one, then the threat’s not one of the factions. It’s elsewhere. I’d sure appreciate not feeling like I’m being kept out of the loop, though.

That’s right. So if the rumor’s true, Thorne’s bulwarking not only the castle itself, but its borders, too. If someone so much as sneezes the wrong way, we might be looking at conflict. Like you said, wouldn’t take much.
[Yeah. Like Goro.]

Not that I've seen. You'll be the first to know the moment I run into someone trying to start a war, promise.

[ This might not be the most personal way for them to have made contact, but given that their interactions have been limited at best so far, maybe it is appropriate. ]
And to know that we've got someone keeping an eye on things in Thorne. It sounds like they're more anticipating an attack than planning to go on the offensive.
What are the implications of the Queen going to Borrel?
[ Sorry, he still needs some help getting up to speed here. ]
no subject
And I’m surprised to hear from you, all things considered. [Such as, disappearing without a trace back on Earth. But maybe that’s a conversation for some other time.] But it’s a relief you’re here.
Borrel’s where the kingdom’s military base is stationed. The captain of which also happens to be the Queen’s uncle.

It seems like Sam's been doing a great job here, but I'm happy to contribute whatever I can. I hear you two are in contact often.
Good ol' nepotism, huh? I guess I shouldn't expect any different. So they're getting themselves ready too.
no subject
What's royalty without a little nepotism? Yes, they're preparing for something, even if I can't quite put my finger on what.

[ Your work husband is in good hands. ]
An attack from the Free Cities, if I had to guess.
no subject
If that were the case, I'd think Thorne would be a little more transparent about sounding the alarm. But maybe the situation's more delicate than I give it credit for.
[But it's still a little odd, to him.]
no subject
[ Granted, some messages sent like this can be done one-on-one, but this sort of open forum is... a bit much. ]
It could be there's something we're missing. I know there's a lot of context I still don't have.

I’m not sure how much I can uncover, but I’m not against doing some poking around at the castle. I have access to a few of the more restricted areas, though I doubt anyone’s going to leave top-secret documentation lying around for me to nose through.

[ There had been five years in which to do it, and Wong had been there keeping an eye on things, but he'd also been operating separately from the Avengers (or what was left of them), collaborating with other Sanctums as needed. ]
No, probably not, but maybe you'll get the chance to listen in on some conversations.
Just be careful.
no subject
Don’t worry. I’ve built up some trust around the castle. I think I can ply a little leeway if things get complicated.
[IS THIS A SELF-FULFILLING PROPHECY. SURELY NOT.]
no subject
All right. Just don't push your luck. You're the only one of us in Thorne, and I get the feeling it wouldn't be that easy for one of us to come bail you out.
[ Especially with the borders being watched even more closely in recent days. ]
no subject
Probably not, but don't worry. Like I said, I can work enough magic to bail myself out if needed.
[Maybe. Probably. Figuratively. Don't hold him to this.]
no subject
All right, fair enough. Just make sure to stay in touch.
