Just a thought, considering our recent guests - what's your opinion on vampires and werewolves? Do you have them where you come from or are they just in stories? Monsters? Misunderstood? Just another type of creature?

And yeah. Mostly. There's more tolerance than I was expecting, I guess. From most fronts.

Some kind of myth in human worlds?

Werewolves and vampires. And yeah, I guess you could say that, though I've had a lot of people say they're real. They're real on my world too.

Long story short, vampires are immortals who live off the blood of humans or maybe animals, werewolves are humans who turn into wolves and sometimes lose their sense of self.

And our recent guests are those things. Eating blood and turning into... wolves.

They don't seem like they're causing that much of a problem.

That's the thing, neither really has to cause a problem.

There are certainly similarities! The trouble with vampires is, the powerful leaders are usually older. The older the vampire, the more time for them to grow distant and disdainful of humanity. And that's assuming they stay sane.

I've fought many vampires, but I don't think I've ever encountered a proper werewolf! Wolvish monsters and demons, sure, but not a genuine shapeshifting human.

So, no superheroes but vampires, werewolves and other things, those are common where you're from?

Shapeshifters are probably close to what I've read about. Most of them did it to deceive rather than harmlessly in the stories, so if they existed I suppose they'd fall out of my good opinion at that point.

Interesting is one word for those experiments, though.

I don't doubt they could've provided valuable information had they been conducted differently. But they weren't done on the willing or the aware, and the cost to them was high.

There were stories in Ravka of kilyklava, myths of creatures who hunt for the blood of humans. But, to my knowledge, they were only stories. Cautionary tales told to children to keep them from misbhaving.

[Which is neither here nor there of whether she believes in them- there were always kernels of truth in all myths, afterall.]

We sort of do. Just different versions of it.

Seems like they have more in common than not, at least.

I imagine a lot of things were just made up. The legends were all started way in the past, so they probably didn't understand the supernaturals they ran into, at least the ones they knew about.

Hunters? Yeah.

Really? To superheroes? Man, I'd be all over that. Do they have superpowers and everything?

Yeah. Common but mostly in hiding. Society isn't exactly cool with them yet.

Yeah that's a good enough reason for them to fall out of favour. A lot of the rumours where I come from say shapeshifters are like that, but I'm not inclined to believe rumours, not until I meet the person and see what they're like. There's always bad in the good, and good in the bad.

Ouch. Sounds like what might happen to supernaturals in my world, if they're not careful.

[And if only she knew she's having an encounter with a proper werewolf right now. Then again, several people have already figured his secret out, so who knows, she might too.]

Do you have legends about them, where you're from? Or is it just monsters and demons that happen to look like wolves?
