[A combination of deep exasperation and resignation doesn't show in Altaïr's 'handwriting', but if it could, it absolutely would.]
We discovered a pair of mated lizards in the woods of Solvunn some time ago. One appears entirely normal, the other is half-mechanical, with gears in its midsection. It should clearly be dead regardless of where those gears came from, and yet it both lives and has fathered eggs.
[Unspoken: 'That's fucked up, right?'
Hilda's handwriting interjects, clearly addressing Altaïr. ]

[He feels as though he should be too dignified and composed for internal bickering in front of others but he absolutely is not.]
Miracle implies the presence of divinity. This is clearly something else. I would like to know what, and to know whether any other Summoned have encountered anything similar.
[ Somewhere Hilda is rolling her eyes and mimicking him but thankfully everyone else is spared the theatrics. ]
( ooc: visit the lizards here! and you may get replies from either one of the new parents or both! don't worry about posting order, thread jacking is encouraged )

he's rude and did not rsvp.
Alucard doesn't wave over to either Altaรฏr or Hilda. He simply approaches and offers a polite nod.]
Has anyone made sense of the gears yet?
alucard always has an open invite
Not yet. But you could be the one!
no subject
[How does one lizard, precisely?]
no subject
As long as you don't startle them, they don't object to being picked up.
no subject
[Which means that Alucard is absolutely going to abuse vampire speed to pick up Veliki. Is it over the top and completely pointless? Absolutely. Is Alucard going to feel bad about it? Not at all.
He's careful in his grip at least, bringing the lizard up to eye level to get a better look.]
How long ago was it that you found them?
no subject
[ She doesn't finish the sentence because there's a sudden rush of wind as Alucard blurs right by her. Hilda can't recall a time when he's made use of his vampire heritage before; she's surprised for one, but more than that she's impressed.
Veliki peers back at him curiously, seemingly also taken aback by the speed in which he had been picked up. ]
Maybe a month or so ago? It's hard to say how long he's been like this though.
no subject
It isn't as if lizards have especially long lifespans. One would need to assume that he was an adult when this happened though, as it doesn't look as if he grew into the gears.
no subject
no subject
[Alucard hopes the answer is no as he continues his examination. Carefully, he runs a finger over the machine parts, frowning. This feels off, and there is nothing present that Alucard is used to.]
Nothing is coming to my mind immediately here, I'm sorry to say.
no subject
[ So clearly the answer was yes for Hilda.
The strange thing is Alucard runs a finger over the machine part, Veliki doesn't blink or move. In fact, he seems rather normal like nothing had happened in the first place. Hilda lets out a sigh. ]
That's okay. We figured we'd put it out there to see if anyone knew anything or had encountered anything before since some of the Summoned have been here a while. If you
no subject
[How long do you want to be looking after them????]
It's odd that he's not reacting though. What I'm most curious about is what type of bodily functions is the equipment supporting? Surely you don't stick gears to a lizard without reason.
no subject
Circulatory and respiratory, according to the experts' assessment.
[Which may or may not be correct, but it's not as though he and Hilda have the knowledge to argue.]
And I doubt that reason was either a special fondness for or dislike of this particular lizard.
no subject
Well if Veliki does outlive me then I guess I'll have to find someone else to take care of him when that time comes.
[ But right now? She's clearly his mother. ]
Dr. Rutherford did have a hypothesis that Veliki might have been an experiment to test out whatever it is that was done to him before being applied to someone else. [ Her brow furrows in worry. ] Namely humans. But that doesn't have to mean it's for awful reasons, right? Some people lose limbs and they need prosthetics to replace them.
no subject
A limb is one thing. Circulatory and respiratory are something else. Much more complex systems for one, that require some precise medical knowledge. Not that prosthetics aren't, but thinking about how the brain communicates with the body to make these functions work - and the heart as well - that says something about the knowledge the person doing this must have.
[He pauses, something surfacing in his mind.]
You two weren't here when it happened, but when Thorne was the only place capable of doing Summons, there was a jail break. It was led by two unknowns, and it wasn't clear if they had any allegiance to any factions. I have to wonder if maybe there's something in that thread worth pulling on.
no subject
And yet there Veliki is, surviving and apparently thriving.]
Really.
[That certainly catches his interest.]
What happened to them afterwards? How was it achieved?
no subject
[Read: Hilariously depressed and wanting to commit so much murder.]
They managed magic that stopped time for a full hour, and opened portals to Solvunn and the Free Cities. What became of them after is wholly unknown. It happened all too fast.
I don't know why they came to my mind when looking at your friend here. It could be nothing at all. But they've never reappeared, and that seems strange to me.
no subject
[ It's like something out of one of the adventure books she enjoyed reading. In reality though, she knows there's probably more to the story than just that and it probably isn't just gallant and daring escapes. ]
Were they affiliated with the Solvunn or Free Cities councils in any way? I mean, why open up portals to those places otherwise?
[ Along the same vein, she had thought about reaching out to Aleksander Klingel or at the very least asking someone who had connections to him about the machinery. The idea had quickly been squashed though; he'd seemed too important to bother with something like Veliki but she was starting to reconsider it now. ]
no subject
[Hilda, it was a terrible time.]
If they had any affiliations, they did not make them known. I can't say I've seen the two around the Free Cities at any point either.
[Alucard frowns, weighing the thoughts carefully.]
We know that there have been Summoned in the past. Maybe they left some work behind, or shared notes that have been kept private for generations, resulting in what we see now.
no subject
[Which is annoying. He doesn't like being trapped wandering about in the dark. Still, he's learned something interesting about the Summoned who came before him; he'll remember it.]
But there has to be a way to change that. We'll just have to trace what leads we can, and see where they take us.
no subject
[Possibly just ask Viktor to go snooping? Who knows.]
Just let me know how this develops. I'm curious.
i think we can wrap here or? ๐
Maybe it was because she had already developed a strong attachment to their lizard friends, or maybe it was an avenue to avoid other things - but regardless she was committed now. The furrow in her brow has more to do with her trying to draw any kind of conclusions from what they had spoken about, but she is drawn out of her thoughts in time to give Alucard a grateful smile. ]
Thank you for all of your suggestions - we really appreciate them. And if you think of anything or come across anything let us know. Oh! Or if you want to adopt one of the new brood when they hatch, you're welcome to too. [ Her voice turns sing-songy and teasing despite the offer being 100% serious. ] They'll need a good home to go to after all.
