Yeah, that part I've lived long enough to see firsthand. Kind of screws with your optimism about humanity as a species sometimes.

Optimism is a luxury I have long since set to the wayside. There is no point to it, in the tedium of the same cycles repeated again and again over the millennia, as civilizations rise, and fall, and rise again.

I've had some pretty good hot dogs. Redeems it a little.
