Believe it or not, a typewriter would actually be kind of worse

( Metal fingers... weird keystrokes. )

[ Hold, please. There's a pause for a few minutes. ]

Go check outside your front door. You can have that and he can't use it.

[ Sitting on the ground in front of Sam's apartment, there is a glass jar. It contains a tiny, active storm cloud that swirls and illuminates with lightning every few moments. The rain that drizzles down does not accumulate in a puddle at the bottom of the jar. (That part took almost a month to work out.) It makes for a good lamp, or sleep aid. ]

( It's 20 minutes later before he replies, almost all of it spent ogling the jar. )

I'm not kidding, this might be the coolest thing I've ever seen

( Also, seriously not a half-bad sleep aid — or something to stare at while he's trying, anyway.

Fortunately, nobody can see how grossly sincere he is when he says this: )

You're welcome. I can do ones with fire too, but those burn out after about a week. The clouds will stay.

It's nice to have here in the desert. Like one of those white noise machines.

I used to sleep with the TV on, it's been an adjustment
With the lightning and all, this is pretty close

I hope it helps. If you ever really can't sleep here, you can sleep in the Horizon. Sometimes it's the only way.

It feels the same as sleeping in the real world. It's like eating or drinking, or anything else you do there. Plus, when you come back, you won't be groggy or want another fifteen minutes.

[ Look, she can't judge. She sleeps with a wolf, and that's the most normal part. ]
