Quick survey:
1 - What do you do for work here?
2 - What did you do back home?
3 - What's your skillset?
( note: personally, I'm cool with threadjacking in my posts as long as the other person is too, go to town. )

If you ever want a little friendly no-magic competition and you're in the free cities, look for the guy with the metal arm

I'm in Free Cities! Sounds fun. I'm living at Mag's Inn for now. That's interesting about the arm. What kind of metal?
no subject
Vibranium.

Never heard of it! If you're looking for ideas for work, let me know if you find one. I was talked out of becoming a hunter since I have no good weapon yet, but it seems like a lucrative business. If you survive.

I'll give you a heads-up if I find something. I've seen a couple guys doing the monster hunting thing too, but something about spending three days in the desert getting sunburned and fighting dragons doesn't really feel appealing
Go figure
Might give it a shot one day, see what all the fuss is about

Yeah I was mostly only interested for the money but was talked out of it. I used to be a mercenary of sorts, but there doesn't seem to be work for that unless you want to join the army.

We're from the same place.
Last thing I remember before I got here was sleeping on his couch.
I looked into something like that, too.
I've done the army thing already. Once was enough. Wouldn't recommend it.

It's good to have someone from home, I've got my best friend here.
No, I'll never willingly join an army. Back home they take kids like me and raise them in the army, always seemed creepy to me.

Jesus, are you serious?
I can't say that doesn't happen where I'm from in some of the worse parts of the world, but all the major governments don't take anyone under 18.

Yeah. They test kids wherever they can in the country and then take them. My country was one of the few places they didn't do that, but if they could find a way to get them, they would. Then there's the other country that just outright murders all of them if they find them, kids or not. Or experiments on them. It's not really safe anywhere. This is the first place I've ever been open about what I can do, too dangerous at home. Everyone wants you for one reason or another.

Sounds like the kind of thing that would make you think about staying here instead of catching a train back home.

Just a hypothetical.

Don't get me wrong, it's nice not to get noticed anymore, but I miss fast food and TV too much to stick around permanently.

But this 'tv' is worth it?

The TV is a metaphor
