โ to everyone โ
A moment of thy time, if I may.
My name is Urianger Augurelt and I am one of the Summoned of Thorne. Recent events concerning a most disturbing ritual hath affected us all in myriad ways, however I consider myself deeply fortunate to have recovered from mine injuries as wholly as possible.
( He's massaging the truth at this point, to be honest โ but then that's always been a speciality of his. )
'Tis chasing sleep that hath proven itself somewhat problematic โ try as I might with methods that I once considered tested and true. If thou hast any further remedies beyond chamomile tea, meditation, or breathing techniques, I would be most grateful to hear of them.
In return I would offer simple tarot readings, tictures and salves for ailments, or even coin if thou art in need of necessities. I am an accomplished healer, arcanist, and astrologian; if there is aught else I can offer thee in exchange for thy help, I would hear it.
My thanks.
โ U.

'Twould be unwise to lean upon such magicks so soon, wouldst thou not agree?

Dost thou imagine I would actively seek a solution that would cause myself or others harm? Truly?

Then let me assure thee that I have not yet reached such a stage.

Although perhaps too much of an indulgence is a dangerous thing, I have found it useful to have a dram or two of whiskey or other strong spirit before bed, to quiet the mind.
If you serve as long a commission in the army as I have done, such things become a necessity, I am afraid.
no subject
Thou art a military man? I can understand well the stressors of such a life, but as a mere scholar and healer I fear such tactics may be a little much. Furthermore, I amโ
( And there's a pause here, as Urianger tries to figure out how to word what he wants to say. )
โnot especially well practiced in holding my drink.
( One tankard of ale and he is MESSY drunk 8') )
May I ask how long a commission thou hast served?

Lord John, please -- or John, if we are to be comrades.
[He would be smiling very handsomely, if this were face-to-face. Alas, he will do what he can to convey his charm through text instead.]
And indeed, I am. You might say, much as the title, I was born into the commission. I have served since the age of sixteen, seen active duty in several wars and campaigns, and found myself promoted further than perhaps I would have liked.
They do not tell you upon commission that a large part of an officer's off-duty responsibilities is social obligation. Parties. Quite a lot of dancing and drinking is to be had. For better or worse, one might say I have had a bit too much practice...
There are other options, of course. One must determine what works best for themselves, for their own needs. You say that you are a scholar. Forgive me if my questions are too forward, but -- do you exercise? Keep any active hobbies?
no subject
( There had been a time where he would have insisted on calling him by his proper title, but Urianger is doing his best to dismantle the walls that would keep him distant from others. This is part of that! )
Is that so? I confess, I would have assumed quite the opposite. Mayhap I should call on thee for thy assistance the next time we are required to attend a gala: my presence there was as much trial and error as aught else.
Before I was Summoned 'twas my line of work that kept me active. I was a reasearcher, yes, but my work was often of the hands-on variety, which did often include a great deal of travel and battle. Here in Thorne ... my days are much changed. 'Tis the trek between my home and the castle's astronomy tower that doth serve as my daily exercise.
no subject
It would be my honor to assist you in navigating the daunting waters of society parties, my new friend.
I think perhaps your situation might improve if you were to add to that routine. You said you have seen battle โ what training have you had? I have often found that exhausting the body helps to quiet the mind, at the end of the day. Fencing is my own preferred poison.
no subject
It can be taxing, to be sure, although I doubt it compares to the fatigue that follows physical exercise. Mayhap thou art correct, and it is time for me to consider engaging in such a pursuit.
no subject
But -- yes, I think you would benefit from a bit of healthy exertion. And the company of friends, when it is warranted.
no subject
We might need to look into daily spars, if you're amenable. You'll be able to draw on your magicks, of course, but physical exertion during the day tends to make it much easier to fall asleep at night, in my experience.
no subject
Come now, Thancred. Thou knowest well enough my chances of lasting more than a round or two with thee.
( Please be serious my friend 8') )
no subject
If you are desperate enough to be appealing to the rest of the Summoned, are you not willing to try anything? Surely a bit of exercise wouldn't be the end of the world.
no subject
( But the writing stops for a moment as he tries, and fails, to come up with a word he prefers. Boo this man, boooo! )
Fine. Mayhap following this exercise, we might implement the stretches thou didst suggest at the gala?

In truth I had hoped to spare thee further involvement with mine ailments. Thou hast been a most supportive companion in the moons since my Summoning โ thou art deserving of some small respite.

If you continue to insist on avoiding me when you're in need of assistance, I might start to take it personally, you know.

When shall we begin?
no subject
As soon as you are ready. We can start today, if you'd like. In a bell or so?

If you believe a light salad is enough to carry you through a full training session, then you still have much to learn, it seems.
Please ensure there's some form of protein, for both our sakes. And some grains as well.

I confess, "melatonin" is not something with which I am familiar. Thine explanation is most curious: thou art able to artificially supply this chemical to an individual in order to encourage sleep?
this went to my AU inbox in another world apparently i apologize!
[ Though she would be more concerned. Bodies need sleep to function, and without a modern pharmacy, this would be the next best thing. ]
No worries at all! <3

I would be most interested in sampling such a thing. May I ask how it is administered?

In two ways. More often as a kind of cigarette, meant to be smoked. That's the most popular way. Or in a drink, usually a dairy one, for those that have delicate throats and would rather not aggravate them by smoking.
