to all;

Okay, look. We need to talk.

What the hell is going on around here? That whole 'make the summoned run around like trained jackasses' thing? Not kosher.

Before I say anything else, I'll be the first to admit, I didn't let the bug loose. It was a bad call, somebody got hurt, and I'm sorry. I really am. If I could go back knowing what it did, I'd have let it out in a heartbeat.

But that's the thing, isn't it? I mean, seriously. Let's break this whole thing down.

  • Those douchebags running the Free Cities (or Thorne, or Solvunn) drag us in from wherever we were, without asking, against our will.
  • A highly reclusive nation decides to let us come hang out for a Disney vacation in their deeply secretive community as a gesture of good faith.
  • At a time when Summoned from all three factions coincidentally happen to be hanging out in the same reclusive ass place, something mysterious and terrible happens. I don't know about the rest of you, but I, for one, am shocked it didn't go as planned.
  • Instead of sending guards, the Free Cities sends us freaking couriers with the most useless note in the history of the goddamn planet telling us to release a device we know nothing about, without telling us what it does, just that we need to be real friggin sketchy about it.
  • When not everybody obeys without question like good little soldiers, one of our own gets hurt, and they shake the shame finger at us like it's our own fault? Are you kidding me?

  • First of all, if they can send couriers they can send their own friggin guards to handle crap like this. Or, hell, have the damn couriers release the things, they have hands, they could've prepped the packages their own damn selves instead of foisting it off onto the people who didn't even ask to be here in the first place.

Second of all, even if they COULDN'T, how about they slap in a goddamn paragraph or two on what the thing is? If everything's all hunky dory, and all that little bitch does is provide a protective shield, who CARES if a note that was gonna SELF-DESTRUCT ANYWAY gets read over somebody's shoulder?

This whole thing reeks of grooming us to start following orders without full intel. Surely nothing will come of that. Except, oh wait, Libertas just got friggin' bombed. The continent's going to war, and we're getting played.

And here's the other thing: I'm pretty sure Free Cities kids weren't the only ones running around doing sketchy crap during the happy fun werewolf party. Thorne, Solvunn, you two wanna weigh in here? Bueller? Anyone?

( it's probably unadvisable to be overheard expressing such opinions aloud but fuck the police, he mad. he's especially mad that he can do fuckall while here in Thorne, after watching Libertas's destruction. )

Damn your feelings, Queen Ellya just firebombed a city full of living, breathing, innocent people. You think you could spare some outrage for them?

I heard the Summoned delegate of the Free Cities was also injured, what about them? Unbelievable.

He's okay. Banged up, but okay. He's in the hospital and he's got guards. Military AND Summoned.

May he enjoy a speedy recovery. Do they expect him to be in any further danger?

I don't think so. Seems to be more like a precaution than anything else.

Better to be careful. Any word of what their relief efforts are for Libertas?

Portals started opening last night, after they made us all go home. I guess it's the standard stuff for this kind of attack? Evacuations into Cadens, supplies into Libertas. I assume Aquila is sending people too.

How many of the available Summoned there are mobilizing to go?

No clue. I know a few of my friends are going, but there hasn't been an official poll or anything.

I'm sorry to bombard you with questions; I'm a doctor. Trauma medicine is one of my specialties.

( something he can do fuckall with since he's in Thorne. )

I can't be there in person, but if you know of anyone going who would like a crash course in burn care before they depart, I'll be in the Horizon later this afternoon.

[ Claude's been quiet during all the messages flying back and forth. It's all too familiar to him: a devastating attack, speculation of all kinds, having to hurriedly make plans for something where they don't know what their destination will bring, let alone what they'll find. There's too many unknowns and while they're also weighing on his mind to sort through since they'll need to be analyzed at some point, Libertas is occupying the majority of his thoughts.

So when this particular message goes through his vision with a way to add to the aid they're going to provide, it catches his attention. ]

I'd like to be counted in that anyone, if you don't mind. I know a bit of healing magic but that only goes so far. I unfortunately have some experience in dealing with burns from fire magic, but this...

[ Well. No need to finish that thought. ]

The more we can prepare beforehand with what will help in Libertas, the more help we can provide upon arrival. This offer certainly sounds like it'll help accomplish that, so thank you for putting it out there.

The innocents who have been harmed must take priority. But there is more than enough reason to be suspicious about the manipulations that led to such a massacre. If we ignore that, it could result in something even worse in the future.

How fortunate then, that we as a species are gifted enough to work and speculate at the same time.

Seen as how you admitted to letting your pride get in the way of protecting a life, I think I'll hold off on extending trust a while longer.

You want to assuage your guilt, the first thing you ought to figure out is what you can do for the people of Libertas. I see a few of your teammates in the Free Cities are already making plans.

Dammit man, I'm a doctor, not a politician. Protecting someone is not a choice.

Unless your investigation has more to it than acknowledging the machinations of corrupt government entities, the biggest picture I see, presently, is a city in dire need of assistance.

Do you have any more information? Any leads on who injured the delegates, and murdered the Queen's advisor?
