Hello everyone in Free Cities, this is Jayce Talis again. I was talking to the Libertas relief workers about next steps and the rebuilding effort since there were a lot of destroyed buildings and homes.

It's in early stages but volunteers for manual labor would be very appreciated now, and maybe those of us who have construction skills could be of more help in the future. I know not everyone is into heavy lifting, but I'm sure there are other things people can do, even if it's handing out meals or running errands there while they get things moving.

[Then, briefly, a hastier set of handwriting:] If you're at a loss, I'll be happy to assign you something to do.

I said I would ask other Summoned if they can volunteer some personal time, especially since we did an impressive job with the heavy lifting in the mines. There won't be any payment, but we'd offer higher discounts for our store.

I'm glad to hear that. I hope you're staying safe though. Was it the walking dead?

That's right. But don't worry, I'm used to this kind of thing.

Being used to it doesn't make it easy.

I actually was wondering if you'd be willing to test out a prototype I have for a new kind of shield. If you like it you can keep it. We got this new material from Luna, it's not made for aggressive combat, but it amplifies magic and absorbs it. Combined with a strong shield enchantment it would be ideal for defensive use.

It won't be as impervious as the shield that Sam has, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to copy that material, but with risks rising I thought I'd test out mostly defensive/protective items. But I could use a POV of someone who uses them regularly.

[ Steve tends to prefer shields that can be used for both defense and offense, but he can't deny that he's curious about this special new metal and how it can be applied. ]

It sound like that'd be extremely useful. I'd be happy to come help you test it out. I'm no stranger to testing prototypes.

[ Tony was constantly upgrading their gear, back before everything fell apart. He remembers those times spent in his lab well. ]

Probably early next week since I'm working on the reconstruction ideas this week, but I really appreciate it. I was thinking coming up with good defensive items is a good approach with everything going on lately. Viktor and I are trying not to get the attention of the military while still being helpful, so it's a balancing thing.

Oh also, Viktor and I are doing enchantments now, if you want to get one on your shield.

I get it. Something that can't immediately and obviously be weaponized is going to earn a lot less attention.

[ Of course, his whole thing is using shields as weapons, but he can explain that in person. ]

Enchantments?

Exactly. It may be a losing battle, but we're going to avoid as long as possible.

Yeah they're magical spells that you can put onto items that last for a long time. Such as a defense enchantment or a durability enchantment. It would make your shield even more difficult to break and create an extra buffer around it when you use it offensively. We have a list of them you can look through when you come by.

[ Steve doubts that anything that exists in Abraxas will be quite the same as vibranium, but he's certainly open to other concepts for a shield. Even magical ones. ]

That would be great. My shield from home could withstand almost anything due to what it was made of, so any means of replicating that is going to be very helpful.

When would be a good time to come by?

[ He's right of course, but Jayce is determined to make something similar! Or at least his own type of concoction that is helpful. He likes tweaking his work, he's a scientist and inventor at heart. ]

That's the plan. I really want to try to get close to it, it's remarkable.

[ He's seen Sam's after all. ]

Let's go with next Monday. That'll give us the rest of the week to do some construction on our end and work on it. Viktor is looking forward to enchanting your other one, it's his first magical skill he's been working on.
