My name is Matthew Murdock and I'm wondering if anyone could help me or point me in the direction where I could help myself.

( this isn't something he really needs but he figures it'll give him an idea of both who all is here, what they can do, and who might answer a call for help from someone they think needs it. )

For those that don't know me, which is nearly everyone, I'm blind. To save you any questions, I've been that way since I was a kid, it doesn't hurt, you can see my eyes if you want, and no, I don't have a dog. Wish I had a dog, they're cute.

Anyway, when I showed up here, I came without walking cane. I've been using a branch because it's what's available but I'm hoping someone might recommend a place to either buy something similar or resources to make one.

( he doesn't need the cane, really, but it's good to have for a myriad of reasons. )

If nothing else, I can stick my hands out and go at that it that way but I'd rather not apologize for accidentally grabbing someone. Thanks in advance.

Also, I can answer any questions! And give you any info you might need, especially if this is all still really new. It's a lot, right?

And — this might be a really specific question but — you're from New York, right?

( he knows he shouldn't be surprised at the way people are jumping to help but he is. he'd sort of worn out his welcome with a lot of people back home and being in a new place where nobody (that he knows of) knows him?

it's strange but kind of exhilarating. )

I think I'm outside the casino. You don't have to come and find me if you're busy, though. I don't want to put you out, make you go out of your way.

Yeah, Hell's Kitchen. Good guess or some kind of intuition?

[ no one should feel like they're all alone. and sometimes, help comes in an over-excitable package. ] No, no that's okay! I'm not doing anything that I can't finish later, you know?

I can make my way there in like 15 minutes? Or — you're not busy either, right? [ something he had to learn is that he can't exactly swing everywhere here, if only because it makes the guards a little nervous. it doesn't prevent him from using the window instead of the door, or using a tether to launch himself over a few roofs. no one has to know!

to the answer, peter frowns — ] Oh! Um, neither? I — [ had you help me on my case where the whole city thought i was a vigilante murderer? ] — I think I saw your name in a paper. You're a lawyer, right? It's just I'm from Queens so, you know! Figured I'd ask!

No, I'm not busy. I'm probably the least busy I've been in a long time.

( which felt strange and like he was somehow missing out on something though he didn't know what. )

But, wouldn't exactly be a surprise to know my name was in a paper. Hopefully, they said nice things and not that we were crazy for taking on the cases we did.

That sounds like a little bit of a silver lining.

[ the best part about sending mental texts, instead of needing a phone is being able to do it while swinging out a window and onto a roof!

and phew, so newspaper was a good way to answer it, then, though the next he's mostly spitballing:]

No, no — I mean, I don't really remember what it said, but I know you help people. Stick up for the little guy? It's important stuff.

I try to. Sometimes, I succeed.

( but not always. which annoys him but he knows that he can't save everyone all at once. )

My partner would tell you that saving the little people doesn't keep the lights on but he doesn't try and stop us either. Secret softie.

[ sometimes is the best they can do. peter parker knows just as well that you can't save everyone, no matter how hard you try. ]

But it matters. Sometimes people want to feel like someone's fighting for them :) [ if he says it often enough, removed from any billboards or news, maybe he'll believe it's all it takes. and besides, aunt may taught him everyone deserves a second chance.

it doesn't take peter too long to make his way to the casino. he hops over a few roofs, and winds through streets that have finally started to feel more familiar than not and he sees him quick after that — its a familiar face, that he searches for, after all and perhaps the familiarity is one sided still. he thinks it polite to call out when he's still several feet away, before he closes the distance between them into something more conversational. ] Mr Murdock! Hi — it's Peter!

( there's a lot of different heartbeats to pick up on, different ways of walking, different scents but he thinks he does pick up something that's more focused on him rather than just walking towards a different destination. he gets his confirmation when peter calls out to him and matt lifts a hand to wave. )

You can call me Matt, you know.

( he says it when peter's close enough and even offers him an easy smile. )

I tend to only get called Mr. Murdock in court and we're definitely not in court right now.

( he doesn't even know if this place has a legal system. )

[ peter goes through the potentially awkward motion of waving, because that's the instinctual response.

you can call me matt and it was starting to get a little uncanny, maybe, at how everyone's he's met here from his own world had insisted on a first name basis. it shouldn't feel strange - it isn't! - but maybe there's the knee-jerk manners to contend with. no mister stark or dr strange or mr rogers and it felt more and more like he was part of the team? or, on more equal footing than he's ever felt before. ] Okay, [ peter says, after a pause. ] Matt, then. It's — good to meet you in person. [ again he'd want to say, but decides against it. maybe if timelines come up, but — before coming back here, pretending not to know someone was something he was trying to make a bigger habit, given the context. ]

Yeah — I actually don't even know if they have a court here, actually? [ they have authorities; people watching them. but is there a legal system? its for the both of them to wonder. ] Wait no, so there was a castle with a dungeon. So maybe there has to be something?

Anyway, sorry, hi. I think I can help you with stuff — if you need someone to make you something. Or — answer any questions about this place?

( he doesn't really like repeating the same thing that someone's just said but in this instance, it can't be helped. he breathes out a laugh and shakes his head because of course there's a castle with a dungeon. )

Of course there is. ( he doesn't know if he wants to know what sort of legal system there is that leads to a dungeon though. maybe better not to ask. )

I probably do need some help. With both. As much as I don't want to admit it, I think going at this alone right now isn't working well.
