My name is Matthew Murdock and I'm wondering if anyone could help me or point me in the direction where I could help myself.

( this isn't something he really needs but he figures it'll give him an idea of both who all is here, what they can do, and who might answer a call for help from someone they think needs it. )

For those that don't know me, which is nearly everyone, I'm blind. To save you any questions, I've been that way since I was a kid, it doesn't hurt, you can see my eyes if you want, and no, I don't have a dog. Wish I had a dog, they're cute.

Anyway, when I showed up here, I came without walking cane. I've been using a branch because it's what's available but I'm hoping someone might recommend a place to either buy something similar or resources to make one.

( he doesn't need the cane, really, but it's good to have for a myriad of reasons. )

If nothing else, I can stick my hands out and go at that it that way but I'd rather not apologize for accidentally grabbing someone. Thanks in advance.

Maybe I'm lucky. We have goats and sheep in the barn next door.
Makes counting sheep a lot easier.

I don't know if that would be better or worse for me. I'm used to the sounds of the city.
Even with this place still being a city, sometimes, it's too quiet.

( nothing was like new york, though. there was nothing with that kind of energy and movement. )

The inspiration goes up and down. I guess I should find something to throw this inspiration at.

I think I understand.
My home in Sokovia was also noisy, and whenever it was too quiet we all knew something was wrong.
It is not normal to live like that, but it is what we are used to.
Perhaps you could make a noisy New York City street in your Horizon and get some sleep there?

Oh, you'll definitely have to share with me if me inspiring you turns into you inspiring someone. I'd like to know what my sphere of influence is.
Never had one of those before.

That's a good idea.
I couldn't see New York but I could hear it. The sounds of cars outside my window, people having arguments about the stupidest stuff while they walk, sirens, alarms, metal hitting metal.
Maybe I'll make it loud and busy when I finally get around to doing that.
Make it so no one wants to show up because it's loud.

I can't tell if you don't like company or if you're joking.
In any case, I'll take ear plugs with me if I ever venture into your side of the Horizon.
I'd like to see what you come up with in the end.

There's a few different things that I can think of that I'd like to do with that kind of control
New York's all I've known so that'll be in there but
There's other things that I think I'd like to be there.
Reminders and such.

I spent a lot of time when I was younger in a boxing gym so maybe a heavy bag, some gloves, something like that.
It'd probably be dark because it's not like it matters to me.
There's a giant neon billboard outside my apartment window back home but I'll probably keep that out of there. Wouldn't want to hurt anyone's eyes.
Open windows with ambient sounds of cars, people, activity.
Somewhere comfortable to sit.
Something open.

Something tells me you didn't just spend your time as a kid at the boxing gym.
I've never been to one of those, so I have no idea what to imagine.

What about your office?

I actually didn't box all that much.
That's just where my dad was so I hung out there and did homework.

As for my office, I don't know.
I guess I could put a bunch of files in there and remind me of all the work that I still need to do and that's just sitting there while I'm here.

I can see how it would be a place of comfort.

I have books in my Horizon. All of them have blank pages.
You always have homework?

I had a lot when I was younger.
I guess I still do though it's less 'read the Great Gatsby and write a report' and more 'is this man innocent, yes or not?'

Still homework.

Well, it sounds a lot like something you would be up for.

I suppose being blind never put you down. Not that it should.
But I definitely still hated homework when I did get some.

But I bet you still did your homework when you got it.
Didn't skip out, did you?

I tried not to, but schools closed when I was 12.
My brother and I saw no point in returning to it when they opened again some years later.

( there could be a lot of reasons that schools would close like that and while he's curious, he holds that question for a less public time. )

You seem to be doing just fine for yourself without school.
They just taught a bunch of unnecessary geometry there anyway.
Not needed.

I liked geometry.

Well, it's not like I'm getting a degree any time soon.

I think I can forgive you for liking geometry.

But probably no real need for a degree especially here
What it gave me was a piece of paper and a lot of debt.

But, I do love what I do.

I think that's important.
That you love what you do.

Even if it's put you into debt.

Can't make me make payments while I'm here.
I'm smarter than I thought I was by getting myself called here.

Oh, right. Totally according to plan.

Totally meant to do this.
It's in my five year plan.
After this, retirement.

You sound like an old man.

I was going for middle aged and tired but can't really argue with old.
