Right then, sorry to blast this into all of your eyeballs first thing on this fine morning, but it seemed like the sort of thing most of us would be interested in discussing. We’ll get right to the point.

Some new nonsense is happening with the Singularity. A few weeks ago, Dion and I paid it a visit on the Horizon side. I didn’t offend it but we didn’t get much out of it. In light of recent events, we’ve gone back, and it seems as if it’s feeling a bit more lively now.

In our initial meeting, the only feeling, if one can call it, was a sort of vague recognition of us, particularly so when I made mention of our potential future. My personal experience with the Singularity is quite limited; however, other experiences indicate this is not unusual. What is unusual is this new state of the monolith as of now, a sort of alert consciousness.

Istredd’s taken it upon himself to do some proper follow up, so we’ll let him get on with what he’s found.

The Dimming happens on December 21st of every year but the Singularity starts waning throughout the month of December. It is dormant on that day, enough that people can visit in person. I've been there twice. It is the natural cycle of the Singularity. Cid saying it's feeling a bit more lively is deeply concerning, it is supposed to be slowing down right now.

After hearing about the tremors causing havoc on the outskirts of the crater, I decided to investigate. I had a suspicion. Going inside of the crater around the Singularity kills the natives of this world. We are instead thrown into the Horizon. Many of us experienced that in April during the collective vision we had, when our territories threw us in there.

I am sorry to say my worry was well-founded. The tremors from the Singularity pushed into the territories and the crater has taken ground. I recommend that no one from the Summoned investigate closely. For right now we don't know if this is reflective of what's to come or just a strange one-time incident. I don't want anyone to panic, but we should keep an eye on it.

I currently do not have an answer as to how to stop it or how to force it into dormancy. I know that there are people in our community who have a connection to it. If you could approach it and see if it will communicate anything worthwhile, or see if there is a way to calm it, that might be helpful.

For now, I would recommend those who are near the base of the crater give it adequate leeway. From the amount of power it appears to hold still, we can only estimate it will continue to grow.

I have never found the Singularity particularly chatty myself, but I hope that those who have forged a connection with it can give us some insight. I can't say I've ever thought of it as malicious, but if its area of influence is actively expanding, I think we can all imagine how disastrous that could be.

Are the mages in Thorne aware of this? And if so, what is their take on it?

I think it's best we never consider it malicious, as that is more of a human emotion, but that wouldn't change the damage it can do. This is certainly unusual, I've never heard of it doing this before in my studies.

I don't know, I sent back soil and the information to the new High Mage Mace with Kyle. This should be confirmation for them as well.

Aye, even if it doesn't mean to do us harm, that doesn't mean that we won't suffer from its tantrum all the same. Assuming that's what this is. Mayhap it's merely a natural part of what it is, though I find that hard to believe.

If it is a natural part of its cycle, it hasn't happened in any recorded history I've read of this sphere. There is always the possibility it has happened long before but the destruction it caused was so extensive that it didn't leave traces. But that is me chasing shadows, I wouldn't know for certain.

Chasing shadows, indeed. It seems unlikely to me, which means this is unprecedented.

Yes, I think it is most likely unprecedented. I'm going off what knowledge we do have, which is that no history has stated this has happened before. There is one line of inquiry I'd like to make to the New Gods, but that'll have to be someone else's job as I cannot speak with them.

You cannot speak with them? Meaning that you have reached out to them and received no answer? What is it you would ask them?

[ Thancred isn't one to befriend gods, but he knows someone who is. He knows Istredd is Himeka's friend as well, but while he won't put her up for it in such a public venue, he can always discuss it with her in private. ]

That much I understand, but what is the plan now? If the Singularity's crater has permanently expanded, will you not be trapped there into perpetuity?

As far as I know they only react to people in Solvunn. I have tried on my own, yes, but they haven't come. I'm uncertain if they simply don't like Thorne and won't go there, or if there is a bigger reason. I would like to know a few things from them.

1. If their former Summoning resulted in any concerning reactions to the Singularity that may have made this inevitable

2. If any of their people had been able to return home by choice.

I assume it will do what it has in the past, including in April, which is make my body capable of being scooped out by the guards who are waiting for me.

Not to involve myself in Istredd's affairs, but fussing at him now will hardly change the current circumstances or assuage your concerns.

If he isn't returned in due time and we must find a way to rescue him, I suspect there will be no shortage of volunteers to put themselves to the task.

Exactly. There really is no changing what's already been done. It's fine everyone wants to scold me first though. I guess.

If there's a way around that bit, I've not found it yet.

It's fair. It means they care, which I don't take for granted.

And who said I was fussing? I wished only to understand the situation. I cannot claim I would do aught differently in his situation.

Given that there is little to be uncovered in Thorne's archives about the old gods, it could be that they don't wish to serve a nation that's forsaken them.

As you know, I have a few friends in Solvunn. I'll see what I can do to learn answers to your questions.

That's quite the assumption. This isn't exactly the same as what happened back then, but I can only imagine you were braced for even the worst outcome.

It was a calculated risk. I believe it worth it, but ask me again if my body is still missing in a few months.

Let us hope it doesn't come to that. None of us would have a means of getting to you without being drawn in ourselves.

Hopefully the magic of the Singularity will sustain you for as long as is needed.

There's no reason to think otherwise so I am operating under the assumption it'll act as normal. I do understand and appreciate everyone's concerns.

I may wait until things have calmed down and then see if offering a drink helps any.

Aye, despite prior experience I doubt that it's particularly capable of malice... But if it was, that would be tidy. Malice is something that we can understand. This expansion could mean anything.

That it could. We also have no prior historical evidence of this happening, which means our guesses are little more than shots in the dark.
