to everyone

[ The following appears in a neat, practiced script that some may recognize as Himeka's handwriting. To the more magically inclined, it may faintly sparkle in places. ]

One of the things I've felt most fortunate about my time here is that I get the opportunity to meet so many people from so many different places. And I know I'm not alone in that!

Some of us has been here for a few summers while others only a moon or so, and it's not always easy when we have malms and mountains between us. But one of the best ways to understand where someone comes from is through what they like to eat. Right?

So, Alucard and I have a proposal! This could be the opportunity to create the first universe-wide cookbook. So if you have something to contribute from your world, whether it's your favorite dish, an old family recipe, or just something that you think is a staple to show off your culture's palette, let us know!

Here's an example:

Kaki Zōsui
World: Etheirys
Region: Ruby Sea
Town: Sui-no-Sato (adapted)

• 15 oysters
• 2 bowls of steamed rice
• 3.5 oz enoki mushrooms (halved)
• 2 green onions (chopped)
• 2 dodo eggs (optional)
• 1 sheet of nori (seaweed, thinly chopped)
• 4 cups dashi soup
• 3 tbsp soy sauce
• dash salt

Wash the steamed rice and strain to remove the stickiness. Put dashi and soy sauce in a saucepan and bring to boil. Add enoki mushrooms.

When the dashi mixture boils, add rice and oysters, then cook for 5 minutes on low. (If you are using eggs, now is the time to beat them in a separate bowl.)

Add a dash of salt, (and beaten eggs), then green onion. Turn off the heat, cover, and let the soup stand for 3-4 minutes

Serve in a bowl with sprinkled nori!

And if you've got no clue about the specifics of your recipe, maybe just let us know what it's supposed to taste or look like? I'm sure Alucard and I can figure something out. Have you tried his hand pies? They will change your life!

[ She includes yet another example of her questionable artistic skills, in shark contrast to her penmanship. "We're Professionals" is written around the drawing in a circle. ]

[ OOC; So the purpose behind this IS to actually create a little cookbook for Abraxas! Like, both IC and OOC. I'd like to put together something graphically or on a separate page or in a journal just for funsies. Let us know if you have any questions! ]

I can't claim to be much of a cook myself since I enjoy experimenting a bit more than recipes seem to allow for, but I'll have to think on what might best fit to volunteer. Maybe something to balance out the categories, depending on what everyone else comes up with.

Also, if you need any other taste testers for experiments I'd be happy to volunteer in service of the cookbook. Oh, and maybe a little bit because I really want to try the recipe you've put out here. It sounds incredible!

Hey, if we end up with a book full of cake then that'd absolutely delight one of my friends from home if she ever shows up here. The rest I mostly recognize, and I think I've had a burger in the Horizon before thanks to someone sharing them. In that case, it feels like either some type of bread or a main meal might be good to add to the list. I can offer one or both from the places where I grew up, in that case.

And I won't say no to trying any of it, and getting everyone together in Nocwich also sounds like a great plan! At that point it'll be a proper party since I bet we could find some drinks to go with everything - or maybe others will give recipes for those too. Have you put together a cookbook like this back home before?

[ Just curious, because it's an idea he certainly wishes he'd thought of himself while home. ]

I'll keep that in mind! One of my favorite kinds is a flatbread that's rather soft and with a bit of thickness to it. It's perfect for going with a good stew or cleaning up a plate, though Fodlan's got a variety of it that's not half bad either.

Now that you mention it, I wonder if one of the taverns there might not mind us taking over for a proper sort of get together. Cooking there might be a little easier, and we could treat them to a meal for a change. Maybe we'll end up with a few more things for you to add to your favorites then.

Even better if there's probably a precedent for it already! We'll have to invite them too since I've not forgotten the impressive spread they put out for us when visiting Luna that first time back when, so all the better to bring everyone together for this.

[ Easy to say when he won't be the one cooking, but! ]

We had some feasts to remember when I was a kid, so I'm all for anything that brings that sort of party atmosphere for everyone to enjoy. If you need help setting it up when the time comes, don't hesitate to ask. I'd be more than happy to help in between the taste testing.

That I am! I've known Hilda since our days at the Officers Academy back in Fodlan, so we've been together for quite a while. You've met then, too, I take it?

Speaking of, if she's not yet involved with the party aspect of this I'm certain she'd love to be. Hilda's got a flair for putting things together.

Some days neither can I since the academy doesn't feel all that long ago, and yet. Sylvain also attended there back in the day if you've met him around here and there.

But you and me both, considering my planning for a party starts and ends at deciding there should be one. Though you also sound like you're a great cook as well, which is an important part of everything! Hilda will find a way to put the perfect touches on everything, I'm sure.

[ If he ever learned about this, he would absolutely call that helping. His favorite kind, in fact! ]

Yes and no, but mostly on the no side of things since Sylvain created almost all of it himself along with our friend Petra who's no longer here. Hilda also added several things, and I filled in some details here and there. Mainly in the library and adding a couple of wyverns since those were both necessary. They deserve all the credit for making it what it was since it looks pretty much exactly as we all remember it from once upon a time.
