I do.

But I thought it was a better use of my time to reach out and learn of others.

It can be. But it depends. Has it been productive so far?

It has been fruitful. More so than I expected it to be.

Well, it can be hard asking people to share personal stories. But harder still to trust the one asking. I suppose being in the same boat regarding our presence here helps engender trust.

I had not thought of that. My trust is easily given, I suppose.

Hopefully it is not so easily broken.

So what if it is?

Can I not mend it?

Only if the other is willing to forgive.

Whether they will forget is another matter, no?

[politicians]

Elves do not forget.

[ and they rarely forgive. still. ]

But I do not think forgiveness and forgetfulness are mutual. What matters is the desire to work towards amendment.

Of course. Desire is what matters most of all.

[And when his patients didn't desire to be cooperative? Well, he did not forget that.]

So why not trust in that?

Ah, I already do. People hunger, thirst and lust for all sorts of reasons. The desire to correct one's mistakes. The need for affection.

Sadly, amendment is not a common goal for most. It's surprising when it happens.

Is it so strange?

Yes. When you work with the people I do, strange isn't the least of it.

I suppose I am rather out of touch with humans.
