Hi everbody.

I guess this is only relevant to anyone in the Free Cities, but since we apparently have new arrivals again, I figured I'd say something.

I'm Nadine Cross, I'm a trained herbal healer and a doctor in training. I also run a clinic and apothecary just down the street from The Sarstina Inn - Salves & Stitches. My services are free to all Summoned. I have all kinds of potions and tonics and elixirs, and I can handle things like broken bones and stitching up wounds and dealing with minor ailments and illnesses. And amputations, but hopefully nobody ever needs one of those.

I could also use some help in the apothecary, if anyone needs a pretty easy job. Locals have started coming in and I need someone to man the desk and register during the day.

And if anyone's interested in learning herbalism, talk to me. I used to be a teacher, and I'd be happy to put together some little herbalism classes.

I think that covers everything.

I might be interested in some of those herbalism classes, if you've time? I know next to nothing about the plants in this place and while it was barely a hobby of mine back in the world I came from... well, I have a lot more time on my hands these days. Might as well do something useful with it, right? Claude mentioned he'd learned some from you about it already.

Of course. I'm done with classes for the year, and I don't start up again for a month or two. I have time on my hands, too.

Claude is what made me think of offering, actually.

Yeah, he's one of the reasons I'm interested too, as he's been working on growing some here. I've been dabbling some in the Horizon but that's obviously quite a bit different. I'd like to know more about the plants in this world, though - the knowledge would be useful, I think.

Is there anything I can offer in exchange for the lessons?

Yeah it's a lot different in the Horizon where you can grow literally anything. Too bad it stays there.

But my boyfriend has the ability to grow plants, even ones that aren't native to here, so I have access to some things most people don't. I know a lot about native plants, though.

Don't worry about it, more people who know first aide in this world is only a good thing. Just recommend me anytime you know someone who needs a healer.

Agreed. I was trying to duplicate the blossoms they had at the Nightbloom ball, but it's a little difficult when I don't know what set it apart as so special. Other than it was pretty. So while I've duplicated the appearance of it, I'm pretty sure that's all I've managed to copy.

And I can do that, with ease.

Some plants are easier to duplicate than others. I wish I knew more about medicinal herbs from my own world, but I only know enough about a few to have them replicated right.

I'm afraid I know more about the flowers from my world than all the herbs and general plants. So that's less useful, other than they're pretty. But I do know some. Although more that are useful for cooking and spices than medicinal use.

I've found that too, especially here. Although I'd say you're pretty well known already. At least among the Summoned.

I'm in the exact same boat. Your basic spice rack herbs? No problem. Traditional herbal medicine herbs...not as much. But I know enough that I've started to be able working on combining local stuff with stuff from home to see if I can enhance either. We'll see what happens.

No, it's fine.

I was in the very first group of Summoned, actually. Before the Free Cities were even summoning people. I've been here for about a year and a half, maybe a little more.

Does that mean you were among the ones that first got Summoned by Thorne?

[ Claude had told him a little about this, but he hadn't specified who might still be here among them. ]

It does.

I was one of the very first. Things were a lot different then. And there aren't many of us left from that first group.

And yes, it's true what you've heard about Thorne randomly locking some of their original Summoned in the dungeons.

Then I'm very glad you found a safer place here. Thorne... doesn't really sound like a very welcoming place.

My people and I got out of the castle as soon as we could. I wasn't locked up, but...the vibe was very don't ask questions, do as you're told, you can't leave the castle.

And they were going to execute one of us. They didn't, other forces stepped in, but a lot of us fled the castle then. I lived in Nott for a while, before illegally immigrating here.

I think I'm definitely considered a criminal in Thorne by now.

I'm pretty sure they're not all that fond of any of us outside their borders right now.

I'm glad other forces stepped in, though. Executing one of us after Summoning us here against our will in the first place is a little much, if you ask me.

To be fair, it wasn't for no reason or anything like that. He attacked a high ranking official in the castle, from what I understand. But still.

okay but did the high-ranking official do something to deserve being attacked or was the summoned in question just volatile like that?

He wasn't giving the answers people wanted to hear. Or much in the way of answers at all.

And I'm guessing a frustrated Summoned got fed up with the mystery and decided to try another form of persuasion.

More or less.

It was kind of a mess all around, but either way, I'm glad I'm out of Thorne.
