apartment complex? i find it quite simple ([personal profile] archiholic) wrote in [community profile] abraxasnet2024-09-07 03:28 pm

to everyone;

( while kaveh understands that not everyone wants to idly chat using the magic that seems to form words out of the air, he really is at his wit's end. he doesn't even have mehrak here to listen to him talk himself through his current predicament; as one of the summoned he doesn't think an answer will be found in any books he can get his hands on in the free cities.

but he's not the only summoned here, which means that perhaps he's not the only one currently dealing with... this.
)

Hello, sorry to intrude on all of you, I'll be as quick as I can. I know we're all still reeling from whatever that was, but I'm at my wits end and I could really use some... advice. And given the nature of this place, it's not a far stretch to imagine that I might not be the only one struggling right now.

It's just... I woke up with wings. And that might seem like a welcome change of pace but now none of my clothes fit, and I keep knocking things over with them because I forget that they're there when I'm focused. Or, even worse, when I'm not even aware of moving them -- I can't bear to think of the number of people I've accidentally hit with them and it's only been a few days. And surely someone else amongst our number has advice or experiences with unruly... appendages. For lack of a better word.

So if there's anyone who might be able to help or share how they've dealt with the unexpected gifts we've been granted, I'd sincerely appreciate it. And don't worry, I'll be sure to buy anyone a drink in exchange -- it's the least I can do. And thank you.

Oh, I'm Kaveh, by the way. I'm an architect back home and, well, this sort of stuff doesn't just happen where I'm from. Mostly. Or when it does it happens to other people, not me.

( boy, if this ain't almost like looking through a mirror directly into the past. )

Believe it or not, I woke up with the exact same problem a couple years back. Walked around like a drunk ostrich for a while until I got the hang of it.

I figured out pretty early on I could kinda bamf mine in and out, have you tried that?

Bamf, you know, it's one of those words that's spelled the way it sounds. Bamf. You bamf 'em in, you bamf 'em out. Are you following me?

Turns out a wingspan's gotta be stupidly massive to carry things that don't have hollow bones, I guess. It takes some training, but once you get used to 'em they can be a hell of a combat advantage, actually.

Gazuntite.

( classic dad joke hue hue hue )

Anyway, I don't blame you. That's definitely the safer call. I think the question's more about how long this place'll let you get by without a scuffle, but I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

You figure out how to fly with 'em yet?

Hey, well, if you ever need any pointers, I'm happy to help out. Took me a long freakin' while to get the hang of it myself, but uh
Flying's really not my thing
Or, I guess it is now, but it really, really wasn't until I got these suckers

You're speakin' my language. A good drink's the right way to my heart.

You let me know when you're free. I've got a spot just outside the city where I went to learn. A few low cliff shelves to jump off of, close enough to the ground that you won't snap your neck, and enough landing space that you don't wind up face first against a wall.

Only way to really find out is to jump. Like, a lot. Repeatedly. Sounds stupid, I know, but worst case scenario, you figure out how to glide

or as we call it back home, "falling with style"
